What to Expect
During the Shoot:
I’ll show up to your location and take about 15-20 minutes to set up the studio.
I’ll slowly introduce myself to your pet and allow him/her to warm up to the flash of the lights, the sounds of the camera, and the feel of the background paper.
Once everyone is comfortable, we start clickin’ away! I’ll use treats, props, squeaks, toys, and anything else we need to get those killer shots!
You are welcome to watch and help out! Patience is key so be ready to bring positive, fun energy.
Once we wrap, I pack up all the gear and give you and your pet a break.
after the Shoot:
While you take a break, I’ll do a quick cull of your pictures and get prepped for your big image reveal!
About 30 minutes later, we’ll sit down, go through all of the image proofs in your gallery, and check out the fun artwork samples.
You’ll select which images you’d like edited for your artwork and place your order.
After our session, we’ll say our goodbyes and you’ll receive a link to your online gallery. The online gallery is for viewing your proofs, making additional image selections, and delivery of your final edited digital files (if ordered).
Over the next several days, your images are meticulously edited and your artwork is designed. If any artwork proofs are required, you’ll get an email with the details. Otherwise, your custom artwork will be delivered in 2-4 weeks!!
How to Prepare
Follow these tips to have the best shoot ever!
Prep your space: Be sure you have an 8’ x 8’ space clear of carpet, rugs, and furniture. This will ensure quick setup and more time behind the camera with your model.
Get your pup groomed: You’ll want your furbaby looking gorgeous from head to tail! Don’t forget a bath, hair cut (especially around the eyes for the fluffers), and nail trim.
Begin practicing a “stay” command: A little training goes a long way but please don’t worry if they don’t master it! Definitely NOT required!
Gather all the props: Collect any toys, props, or treats you want in your images. We’ll rotate them in during the shoot.
Cut back on food: No, your pet doesn’t have to go on a diet! But a smaller meal the day of the shoot might make them work harder for treats. And there will be a lot! So this also helps prevent upset tummies.
Take the edge off: If your dog is on the super hyper side, please take him/her on a walk before our shoot. No need for full exhaustion though! Just get some of the extra energy out.
Strip down your doggy: Yep, you read correctly! I like to photograph pets without the distraction of collars or harnesses. Your pet gets to be free! However, this is your session and if you prefer collars on, totally fine by me!
Big inhales and exhales: Get ready to relax and have fun!
FAQ
Investing in a photo shoot is a big decision, and I’m here to make the process easy and enjoyable! Below are some of the most common questions clients ask as they prepare for their pet’s big moment in the spotlight.
Don’t see your question here? Just give me a shout!

We’ll need a 8’ x 8’ space free of carpet, rugs, and furniture. Hardwood, tile, or other solid flooring is required for the studio to be set up properly.
Don’t have the space? Maybe borrow from a friend or family member? If the temps are nice, a garage would work!
Still don’t have the room? That’s ok!!! Contact me and join the waitlist for a session in our studio!

It’s TOTALLY ok! Your pet doesn’t have to be a master model. We can take all the time we need to get her comfortable. I’ll offer lot of treats, toys, and cuddles to make her happy. If needed, we can guide her with a leash and remove it in post-production.

Light gray and tan are our core colors. They are available year-round, look great with any pet, and match most decors. The other background colors change throughout the year and give you a fun pop of color.

Unfortunately, space restictions and lighting don’t allow for people to hop into the studio. If you’d like images with your pet, check out my on-location work at www.sarahmcgrawphotography.com.

I always start photographing pets individually. If there is extra time and the pets are still happy, we can always try to photograph them as a pack!
